Now that's worth celebrating
We are turning two next week and as we celebrate our birthday we find ourselves reflecting on the past two years. Firstly, we are still here... and given the stats of how many businesses fail in the first couple of years, we think that this is something worth celebrating!
But it hasn't been all smooth sailing for us. Not too many people know the struggle it was for us in the beginning to get on our feet as a small business let alone a small food business. When we applied for food safe approval, the City of Stirling council in Perth pretty much laughed in our face. What we were proposing was to operate from a residential premises until we got a bit of momentum. But the council wasn't too keen on the idea due to the coffee roasting odours. Thankfully, we eventually got them to agree to a temporary approval while we searched for an alternative solution.
Fast forward two years and that alternative solution is now in full swing as we now roasting from a collaborative shared roasting warehouse facility on an awesome Loring coffee roaster. This not only solved our food safe approval problem, but it also unlocked significant operating capacity in our business an enabled us to finesse the quality of our product!
But this is just one example of many hurdles that we, like many other small businesses, face in the early years. As we now celebrate our second birthday we are so glad we didn't give up in the face of adversity. As the old zen proverb goes: "obstacles don't block the path... they are the path."
